that began in February 2008. A Search Committee of individuals from the parish
and school communities and the archdiocesan education ministry reviewed all
candidates and recommended finalists to the Board of Pastors for further
discussion and interview. The Board of Pastors, consisting of all seven pastors
of Catholic parishes in the Northern Valley area of Bergen County, is the
governing body for Holy Family Catholic Academy.
In
commenting on the appointment, Rev. Paul Cannariato, pastor of St. Mary parish,
Closter and chair of the Board of Pastors, said, “The Board of Pastors consider
it a blessing that Sharon Goodman’s dedication to excellence in education will
inspire both students and staff to reach their highest potentials and to live
the Gospel. That’s the purpose of Catholic education.”
In
accepting the appointment as principal of the new academy, Ms. Goodman said: “I
am thrilled with the support of seven pastors and parishes in this educational
effort. It’s a wonderful statement about the commitment to Catholic
education. The whole idea of an academy will be a great benefit for all – for
Catholic education, for Bergen County, and most of all, for the students. I see
this new endeavor as a wonderful opportunity for students to continue their
education, and for Holy Family Catholic Academy to be a feeder school to the
area’s Catholic high schools.”
